Over the past week we have been taking a look at some of the worst owners in the sporting world. As a football owner Vince McMahon is among the worst ever, his XFL experiment failed miserably, but he has built a pro wrestling empire that has literally crushed all of his main competition. On top of that he is master of manipulating the public’s opinion and of all the “Sports” owners out here he is the last gut anyone wants on their bad side.
With that being said there is a fight brewing between Vince’s WWE and Denver Nuggets owner Stan Kroenke. It seems that Kroenke, who also owns the Nuggets Pepsi Center home, booked WWE’s Monday Night raw for Memorial Day. Of course now that his Nuggets are in the Western Conference finals there is a Nuggets game now scheduled the same day.
This is a public relations nightmare as more than ten thousand tickets have already been sold for the WWE event, and McMahon was expecting to sell out the Pepsi center for the event.
It is of note to mention WWE is the second largest traveling show in the World. Only the traveling Circus of Ringling Brothers is larger.
It seems that WWE secured the date way back on August 15th of 2008, and as recently as April 15th, received a contract from the Pepsi Center for the Memorial Day date. We must remember that Raw is a live International TV event and McMahon has commitments to many TV networks to produce the show on a weekly basis.
McMahon is committed to produce this show and stated, "There's no provision in the contract whatsoever that states we could be preempted. We would have never played the date if we known we could be preempted. We've been working around NBA dates for a long, long time, and had we know that this was going to be something unceremoniously thrown out on, we never would have taken the date on a tentative basis. We don't do that."
McMahon continued, "I don't have any idea what I'm going to do, whether I'm going to produce a show out of a parking lot somewhere. I have no idea what's going to happen."
