Poker players take note. This year may possibly be the year one of you makes that giant leap from the Saturday home game to the final table of a really large paying tournament with life-changing money at stake. Every poker player has dreamed of the big payday, we have watched the games televised on ESPN and other networks sitting there thinking I could make that call, the winning call. That call is much easier to make from the couch or a recliner than a poker table with big money riding on it.
The only thing missing is the opportunity. Sure if you have $10k to throw away, and what regular guy does, you could play in the World Series of Poker Main Event and hope to “catch lightening in a bottle”, it has happened and no doubt will happen again in the future. Realistically what are your chances? If you don’t at least play those chances become zero, if you do play about one in 6352 in last year’s Main Event.
Several things have to happen first, you have to have $10k you can do without if you lose, you have to get lucky more than once, and you have to be a pretty good poker player to begin with, then you have a shot, but no guarantee.
It is not making the winning call that gets you to that elusive gold bracelet in the WSOP, it is those calls or folds along the way just getting to the final table that are the difference makers. Some you will make correctly, but it only takes one bad call to become a rail-bird, and then the second guessing begins.
The WSOP begins on May 27th with the Casino Employees Championship and finishes up on July 14th when the final table for the Main Event will be determined, with those players coming back later to compete for a $10 million first prize.
65 events are scheduled this year including a return of the $1,000,000 buy-in Big One for One Drop Charity Event. Antonio Esfandiari won over $18 million by winning the inaugural Big One, the largest payout for any sports or game competition in history.
Las Vegas is the place to be this summer if poker is your game, if you happen to catch that lighting in that bottle
