The world's most perfect cookie: Butter pecan maple melts

If you are a regular reader to this column then you are well aware of the fact that I usually write a narrative here about the dish I am going to be sharing with you. Today I am simply going to shut-up because nothing I can say or write can prepare you for this cookie. Simply put, in the cookie world this is perfection personified. Yes, this is the worlds most perfect cookie!

Ingredients needed to make Butter Pecan Maple Melts:

  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 1/2 tsp. almond extract
  • 1/2 cup toasted chopped pecans
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup pure maple syrup

Steps:

  1. Pre-heat your oven to 300 degree and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicon sheet.
  2. Into a mixer and using the paddle attachment, beat together the butter and sugar until pale.
  3. Into the mixer add the vanilla and almond extract and beat until smooth. Add the pecans and beat until blended.
  4. In a medium bowl whisk together the flour, salt, baking powder and nutmeg.
  5. With the mixer going at low speed, add the flour mixture until a rather stiff dough is formed.
  6. Using a cookie scoop (or form balls by hand), place the cookies on the prepared baking sheet (size depends on your wants but smaller is better).
  7. Place into the oven and bake 25 minutes.
  8. Remove from the oven and while hot brush them with the pure maple syrup.
  9. Place the cookies on a cooling rack until ready to serve.
