The world's equation for being rich is simple, get a good job, add working hard to get a raise add in a promotion or two or three and it will equal money in the bank and prosperity. The problem with the world's equation for getting rich is it doesn’t factor in any of the time and costs it takes on both personal and spiritual relationships.
In Revelation 3:17 Jesus had this to say about the world's view of prosperity “For you say, I am rich, I have prospered, and I need nothing, not realizing that you are wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked.”
Jesus does not say being monetarily rich is a bad thing in and of itself, he is saying if the wealth goes to a person's head and out of arrogance they say in their hearts, “I am rich, I have prospered and I need nothing else, “ especially God it is another matter altogether. Jesus says the ones who feel they have arrived according the world's standards are actually, “wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked,” and in need of a new equation for being rich in this life.
Jesus details in Revelation 3:20 the true equation for being rich in this life, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.
God's equation for finding true riches in this life is a very simple one to figure out, it involves:
realizing the need to have Jesus as Lord and Savior of this life + answering His knock at the door + asking Him for the forgiveness of sin + bowing the heart to the will of God which = a life of knowing peace in the mind and soul no matter what may come.
The world's equation for being rich is tiresome and draw away life. God's equation for being rich also takes away the old life but it adds a new life of purpose and direction where the chief goal in life is no longer self but others.
