The World Golf Hall of Fame & Museum in World Golf Village in St. Augustine, Florida is seeking a Curator/Historian. Reporting to the Director of Museum Operations, this position serves as the World Golf Hall of Fame & Museum’s curator, historian and archivist. The World Golf Hall of Fame & Museum is a division of the World Golf Foundation, Inc.
This position is responsible for managing, preserving, and maintaining the past, present, and future physical and intellectual history of this institution, based on traditional and accepted archival standards. The World Golf Foundation states, “The Curator reinforces the World Golf Hall of Fame & Museum’s position as the game’s trusted resource responsible for preserving golf’s history and honoring golf’s greatest players and contributors. This position will establish a wide-reaching legacy program, with a mission focused primarily on the collection, organization, preservation, interpretation and exhibition of the history of golf.”
The successful candidate must have a substantive knowledge of golf history; a bachelor’s degree in history, museum studies, public history or related field; five-to-seven years’ worth of experience in a related position; and a demonstrated ability to provide leadership in all aspects of the museum’s curatorial and historian activities, including strong writing, researching, and public speaking skills. The ideal candidate will possess sound knowledge of museum practices, including a depth of understanding regarding the management of collections as well as the curatorial role for field of expertise; professional experience include content development, digital media and asset development, collections management tools and software, leading tours and giving lectures or participating in other programming activities in a similar setting /museum; and the ability to work independently or collaboratively with other departments to develop strategic plans for collections, programs and publications and have the ability to interact effectively with Hall of Fame members, donors, industry colleagues and the media.
