The World Cup only happens every four years, so when it takes place DC bars and restaurants make sure to feature the televised games while providing you with great food and drink specials. Here are some of the deals you should take advantage of from June 12 to July 13, the duration of the matches:
Richard Sandoval Restaurants: All of Richard Sandoval’s restaurants will be offering caipirinhas, Brazil’s national drink, as a nod to the location of the 2014 World Cup, for $5 throughout the World Cup. Caiprinhas are made with sugar cane hard liquor, lime, and sugar. These venues, which include Ambar, Masa 14, Zengo, and El Centro will also serve Coronas and glasses of red and white wine for $5.
Ping Pong Dim Sum: Ping Pong will be offering 32 specialty cocktails, each of which will represent the countries participating in the games. The cocktails are $11, but each country’s signature cocktails will be available for $5 on the day of their match. This offer is available at both Ping Pong locations.
Capitol City Brewing Company: For just $10 enjoy a World Cup themed beverage anytime during the tournament at Capital City Brewing Company Shirlington. The drinks being offered include Sangria Roja for Spain, made with Malbec, Absolut Citrus vodka, fresh lemon, lime and orange juice; a Brazilian Caipirnha, with Cachaça, muddled lime and simple syrup topped with soda water; the Italian Chocolate Cake, concocted with Frangelico, Absolut Citrus Vodka and lemon juice served in a sugar rimmed martini glass; Le Fizz for France, which combines Grey Goose Vodka, St. Germain, lime juice and soda water; the Mexican Paloma, a drink made with Milagro tequila, fresh orange and grapefruit juice, agave nectar, soda water and lime juice; and finally the The English Guard, where Beefeater Gin and Créme de Cassis are combined and topped off with sour mix.
Menu MBK: $7 caipirinhas, as well as $5 Brazilian cheese bread and $5 chimichurri fries will be offered throughout the duration of the World Cup.
Mike Isabella Restaurants: Graffiato, G, and Kapnos will have $9 cocktails themed for certain countries during the World Cup including a sazerac for the US, a grapefruit caipirinha for Brazil, a negroni for Italy, a white sangria for Spain, and watermelon lemonade for Greece.
Astro Donuts & Fried Chicken: This sweet spot is offering a patriotic donut, a vanilla glaze confection with raspberry drizzle, blueberries and the letters USA piped in chocolate, for $2.50 on the days when the U.S. plays.
Cuba Libre: World Cup specials at this venue include the Reserva Caipirinha, made with Leblon Reserva Especial, guarapo, fresh lime juice and muddled limes, the Leblon Mojito, comprised of Leblon Cachaça, hierba buena, guarapo, fresh lime juice and a splash of lemon-lime soda, the Carnivale Martini, a concoction made with Leblon Cachaça, Cedilla Açai Liqueur, Clément Créole Shrubb Liqueur, lychee juice, orange juice and fresh blueberries, and finally the Hot in Rio cocktail, of which the ingredients are Leblon Reserva Especial, St. Elizabeth All-Spice Dram, Cynar Bitter Liqueur, sweet vermouth, fresh lime juice, guarapo, pineapple juice, and cayenne pepper, with a garnish of pineapple slices and cherries.
