The world according to Brady

In a previous article, we examined how Right-to-Carry (RTC)–state laws empowering private citizens to have greater freedom to defend themselves in public–seems to provide a safety benefit for law enforcement. Officers defend their lives less often because there are fewer violent criminals committing less violent crime, and armed citizens in RTC states account for the majority of America’s justifiable homicide, further reducing the violent predator pool.

Outstanding analysis. It rather turns the Brady campaign on its head if you care about the regular citizens safety.

I've seen it for years. It almost makes me believe that certain cities, Chicago, DC, are in bed with the criminals. Why else would they resist changing laws to make the victims safer.

I plotted the same data a while back, and concluded that there's NO WAY anyone can make the argument that strict gun laws result in lower crime rates. But, at the same time, a lot of states with lax gun laws do have high crime rates. A big factor that most folks ignore is the differences in climate between northern and southern states.

Cities like New Orleans, Miami, Los Angeles, etc. are pretty much open year-round for outdoor criminal activity. Cities like Boston, Chicago, New York, Minneapolis, etc. experience a lull in their respective crime rates during the winter months.

To get that variable out of the equation, here's the Brady grades vs. Violent Crime Rate chart for the six New England states. Guess which dot is "safe" Massachusetts.

Very interesting! It is clear that the Brady camp are masterminds at covering up the true statistics. Thank you for providing that info.

    (From a fellow Austin citizen)

Excellent statistical series. Please continue such analysis as it is both fascinating and valuable.

By now it is pretty clear that NO 'gun control' law can be shown to reduce any of murder, violent crime, suicide, nor accidents.

While the evidence strongly suggests that allowing law-abiding citizens their uninfringed rights to arms has a quelling effecting on violent crime.

    Thanks.

Sure wish Gov. Doyle up here in Taxconsin would be aware of this data.

The Brady organization like many other grass roots organizations are victims of their own success.
It is debatable in what the term success means to the Brady organization but like the Green Peace, PETA organizations what started out as a good idea, now have been turned into this giant bureaucratic behemoth that wants to ban anything and everything.

    Never forget this simple fact:
To the Brady Campaign your defenseless body dead on the ground is somehow morally superior to you armed and alive standing over the body of your wouldbe attacker.

Thank you for your comment Howard I'll try to make my point much more clear in the future it was simply that gun control does not work.
No matter how well meaning they may have been.
I'll also check my numbers because mine come from the FBI and yours and mine are obviously not even close. But I've made a couple mistakes in my life so I'll recheck the numbers. You might want to check your numbers on guns sold as it appears your numbers are like for TEXAS only. I actually believe we likely share the same idea that gun control is not the answer to reducing any crime. Take care Doyle

We need sensible gun laws in this country which includes allowing police to have discretion over who can carry a gun into public places.

There is outstanding published research documenting that permissive carry-in-public laws don't reduce crime and may increase it.

See: More Guns, Less Crime Fails Again: The Latest Evidence from 1977 to 2006. The article is available online. Search for John Donohue at Yale University. I'd include the url but this comment program doesn't allow it.

Pure Dead: Here is a quote by the authors of your allegedly superior research: "it is not an easy task to tease out the net effects of RTC laws on crime via panel data analyses."

So what you are saying is that if anti-rights researchers say something, they are absolutely right. But if you don't like the researchers, they are wrong. Nice double standard.

And perhaps you can explain why RTC states have 31% lower murder rates and 39% lower violent crime rates?

After looking at all the research, I concluded that the only sensible gun law ever written is the Second Amendment.
