When The Word Church in Cleveland, Ohio, first opened in 2000, no man (save a prophet of God) could've predicted the church's astronomical growth ten years later.
I remember first hearing of The Word Church perhaps back in 2004 or 2005, when a woman I interviewed for an article about growing up at The House of Lord -- the church that led me to Christ -- told me about the new hot church down in Cleveland.
"Yeah, and they've got a book store and a restaurant," she exclaimed, obviously excited.
Bishop Joey Johnson of The House of the Lord is a big mentor to Pastor R.A. Vernon, his spiritual dad as it were.
In Pastor R. A. Vernon's book, The Blessing Behind Closed Doors, he goes into just how Bishop Joey encouraged him to start his own church.
And now, a decade after The Word Church was born in Cleveland -- with other locations in the Cleveland area -- that Word Church flavor has come to Akron, just like Pastor Vernon's vision of having The Word Church brand all over the place, akin to McDonald's on nearly every corner.
I like that vision, and so on opening day of The Word Church's Akron campus -- led by Pastor Wayne Hoye, a spiritual son of Pastor R.A. Vernon, who has sat under his teaching for about eight years now -- I was front and center and amazed at the harvest of souls that came forth to join the church.
That flood of souls to God's altar was almost indescribable in the feelings it brought. You know when the Lord is working.
