How did everything get started? Where did we come from? Whatever happened to the terrible lizards called dinosaurs? Have you ever wondered about such things? Of course you have. As a Christian, I believe that God created, just as He tells us in the Bible, from the very first verse, "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth" (Genesis 1:1).
Just look up at the sky on a clear night away from the bright city lights and see the stars and planets that illuminate the night sky. You would have to "wonder" how these celestial bodies came about by chance from a big explosion (Big Bang) of chaos into being so orderly. Just think about our solar system that scientists say works like a clock. Could you ever make a clock by accident? Would an explosion in a jewelry shop create a watch? Even if you put all the parts of a watch and place them into a bag and shook it for a billion years, would you ever get a watch? Ever "wonder" about the Earth, and how it could support life, while other planets in our solar system do not even come close to the atmosphere our planet has. There are many, many things that have to be just right on the Earth, or life could not exist. If the Earth, were just a little closer to the sun, it would be too hot for life to exist. If the Earth, were a little bit farther away from the sun, it would be too cold, all the water on the Earth would be frozen solid and there would be no life.
What about dinosaurs, those terrible lizards? Everybody heard the stories about dinosaurs, and how fascinating these awesome creatures were? Many of us been to natural history museums, and stand in awe, as we consider what a living creature of such proportions would been like alive. Even though, dinosaurs are not mentioned in the Bible, because the word was not coined until 1841, by Sir Richard Owen, I believe that dinosaurs are described in the Bible. Job 40:15-24, describes a creature that is extinct now, that could not be an elephant, hippopotamus, or a rhinoceros because how it described its tail. "He moveth his tail like a cedar" (Job 40:17)(KJV). Which certainly could never be used to describe the tails of an elephant, hippo, or rhino, because their tails are small in proportion to their bodies. Dinosaurs have been found on every continent (some in mass graveyards) of the world, as far north as Alaska and as far south as Antarctica. Dinosaurs existed in all shapes, sizes, and descriptions, and were fully formed with no evidence that they evolved from an earlier form. What killed them off? I believe it was the worldwide Flood of Noah's day that killed most of the dinosaurs. Mass graveyards of dinosaur bones have been found suggesting a flood of great magnitude occurred.
Then there is the human body. David said in Psalm 139:13-16, "For thou hast possessed my reins; thou hast covered me in my mother's womb. I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them" (KJV).
Keep in mind that you come from two cells which had the ability to divide and change into random structures! How could this be possible without an outside Source, that could produce an exquisite, interconnected complexity! We are definitely fearfully and wonderfully made. Just think of it, from two cells in the beginning of conception into a living, breathing human being. How could all of this come by chance?
I praise God for the wonderful universe He has created, and for the beautiful Earth, He prepared for our home (Isaiah 45:18). I thank Him for the precious life He has given me and each of us, and most of all, I thank and praise Him for our Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ. "Thou art worthy, O LORD, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created" (Revelation 4:11)(KJV).
