In this age of visual technology, Norfolk Public Schools have enbraced the technology of the smartboard. The smartboard is a large white board that looks similar to the pull down screen of yesteryear, but with a 21st century upgrade. The smooth surface of the smartboard, allows teachers and students to touch the screen and manipulate answers to questions, and many other task. This is all done like a huge virtual tv, and the interaction allows students to participate with great anticipation.
A computer is connected to the device, through an electronic process, and feeds information which appears on the screen. Icons are located all around the board, and when touched symbols of every kind appear on the board. Students are fascinated, and eager to participate.
Teachers can teach any lesson with the smartboard, from math to reading, science, and technology. Lesson plans are carried out through the smartboard in creative ways. There is a camera where the teacher can put information under it that appears right on the board, and the students can interact with what ever the problem is. Students can fix a problem just like erasing on paper, but it is on the smartboard. Educational movies like the Magic School Bus can be played for young students, another attribute of the amazing smartboard.
This tool is changing the way students learn, and teachers teach, and it is a good addition to the school setting. All grade levels can greatly benefit from the smartboard, especially the youngest learners.
In a society that has incorporated technology in everything, Norfolk Schools are keeping up, and giving our children an edge to better and smarter learning, with the smartboard.
