The Women’s Committ4ee of the Cleveland Orchestra proudly announces their summer benefit “The Legacy of Lev Aronson” featuring Cleveland Orchestra Cellist Brian Thornton. The event is scheduled for Wednesday, August 13, 2014 and will be held at The Mayfield Sand Ridge Club in South Euclid.
The reception begins at 5:30 p.m. with performance at 6:30 p.m. and dinner at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for the event are $150, $250 and $500. The performance features various works by concert cellist Lev Aronson and will be performed by Brian Thornton who arranged the pieces in tribute to his brilliant teacher and mentor.
“As a young burgeoning cello soloist in Latvia during the 1930’s and 1940’s, Lev Aronson, a Jew, was forced to survive in concentration camps during the German occupation of Latvia. After spending time in several concentration camps he escaped, immigrated to America, established himself anew as a concert cellist and eventually became a highly influential cello instructor.”*
