'The Wire' star Robert F. Chew dies at 52

Robert F. Chew, “The Wire” star, died of heart failure at the age of 52. Chew died in his sleep at his home in Northeast Baltimore according to The Baltimore Sun on Jan. 18.

Chew is most known for his role on “The Wire” as Proposition Joe on HBO but he also appeared in “Homicide: Life on the Street” and “The Corner.”

Chew also worked at a youth theater program at Baltimore’s Arena Players as their music director. He helped 22 of his students land roles on HBO series. He had worked at the youth theater since 1993.

Robert F. Chew leaves behind his sisters Clarice Chew, Tonya Chew and Maureen Little. He is also survived by his mother Henrietta. All of his sisters and mother live in Baltimore, MD. They will hold funeral services for Chew on Thursday, Jan. 24.
