MTV Golden Popcorn awards

MTV has announced the categories for the 2013 MTV Movie Awards. The voting takes place March 5 to April 13. The MTV Movie Awards will air on Sunday, April 14, at 9 p.m. ET/PT live from the Sony Pictures Studios Lot in Culver City, California.

The awards ceremony also serves as the official kickoff to the summer season where we see all the blockbusters come alive. The trademark celebration of movies, actors and music surrounds all the favorites of viewers.

The host of the award ceremony this year will be Rebel Wilson. Wilson was nominated for “Best Female Performance” and “Breakthrough Performance” in her role as Fat Amy in “Pitch Perfect.” She will combine her talents with “Comedic Genius Award” recipient Will Ferrell who has been nominated for “Best On-Screen Duo” with his co-star Zach Galifianakis for their roles in “The Campaign.”

Two new categories will be introduced this year. Awards will be given out to the “Best Shirtless Performance” winner and “Best Musical Moment” will be chosen.

In the “Best Shirtless Performance” category, nominees are Channing Tatum for “Magic Mike,” Taylor Lautner for “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2,” Daniel Craig for “Skyfall” and Christian Bale for “The Dark Knight Rises” and finally, Seth MacFarlane for “Ted.”

In the “Best Musical Award” category, nominees are “Les Miserables,” “Magic Mike,” “Pitch Perfect,” “Silver Linings Playbook” and “The Perks of Being a Wallflower.” All will compete to win the coveted Golden Popcorns.
