'Tis the season, as they say. But what season is it, exactly? The season of holiday parties and winter beer? Or maybe the season of traveling to visit family and friends? Perhaps the season of over-eating and indulgence... you know, excessive enjoyment of the good things in life? All of these things are true, actually. But the simplest definition is probably the most accurate: 'Tis the season of giving.
Sure, I'm talking about the Christmas and Hannukah gifts we receive from loved ones. But it's not just about giving "stuff". Giving joy and cheer to those closest to us, as well as complete strangers, really encompasses all that we should aspire to do this holiday season (and the rest of the time as well, but that's another rant...), so why not embrace that spirit and do something extra for charity. And I've got just the event for you... the Holiday Happy Hour for House of Ruth at The Wine Market.
This lovely restaurant/wine store is a popular spot for South Baltimore folk looking for a great wine selection, and an excellent meal, so it's nice to see them using that influence for a good cause. From 6pm-8pm tomorrow night (Wednesday, December 14th), they will be hosting a special fund-raising happy hour to benefit the House of Ruth, a shelter for abused women and their children. This is an extremely important cause, especially around the holidays when domestic violence is at its peak. Guests are asked to bring a new unwrapped toy to donate to the children living there, and The Wine Market will be offering $5 wine & cocktails, complimentary hors d'oeuvres, and giveaways to attendees.
So if you're wondering what you can do to help this season, deliver a toy (and some holiday cheer) to the House of Ruth tomorrow night. And if you can enjoy some fine wine at the same time (bringing some joy to yourself), then why not? You should feel good about it... shouldn't you?
