The Winchester brothers live to hunt again; 'Supernatural' renewed for season 10

While fans waited with baited breath in the past as to whether CW's horror series "Supernatural" would go on for another year, it seems that season 9 has been one of the best of its entire run, earning it an early pickup from the network for season 10.

"Supernatural" airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. on Riverside CW channel 5.

The network announced the early pickup of "Supernatural" on Thurs., Feb. 13, along with the renewals of several of their other hit shows, including "The Vampire Diaries," "Arrow," "Reign," and "The Originals."

The CW has seen their best Tuesday night numbers in the network's history, with ratings doubling year to year in adults 18-34 and a 150% increase in viewers 18-49. "Supernatural" alone has seen ratings soar in season nine with double-digit viewer increases in all key demos.

In fact, Mark Pedowitz, President of the CW, directly attributes this growth to the back-to-back airing of new show "The Originals" at 8 p.m., followed by their longest-running scripted series, "Supernatural." "The Originals" was recently named the most social new series of the fall by ListenFirst Media,

“This season, we've had great success with our new hit series 'The Originals,' paired with 'Supernatural,'" said Pedowitz. "I'm very pleased to announce early pickups for all five series and let our fans know they’ll have more great drama to look forward to next season.”

"Supernatural" follows brothers Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles) and Sam Winchester (Jared Padalecki) as they travel around the country hunting supernatural creatures. They've also had an ongoing back story involving the fight between heaven and hell, and the brothers often find themselves caught in the middle and have come close to death on more than one occasion. Season 9 has also brought an intense shift in the relationship between the Winchesters, along with some of the most-watched episodes in the past four years.

Catch an all-new "Supernatural" on Tues., Feb. 25 at 9 p.m. In the episode titled "Captives," Sam and Dean are shocked when they learn the Men of Letters’ bunker is haunted. Their search for answers leads them to a storage facility where demons have been hiding a prize possession. Meanwhile, Castiel (Misha Collins) is taken by Bartholomew (Adam Harrington, guest star).
