The Wild Hare Café offers up fine fare along historic Elkhart, Illinois’ Route 66 corridor. Located in a former bank, the café has wonderful homemade pies and light tea room type offerings meant to be shared with a friend or loved one over a cup of tea or hot chocolate. As the winter months settle in, the Wild Hare Café, located in Horsefeathers antiques and gift shop offers a fun stop while heading up and down the Interstate.
Andrea Niehaus who owns the café is an artist that created a myriad of hares posing in trees and lurking around trunks and peeking out from the wall at diners. Part of the fun of the food is enjoying the art while sipping.
After a light meal, take a minute and shop the antiques, pick up some of the homemade jams or relishes and enjoy being off the main drag.
Elkhart was settled in the 1700’s and the town history began with Indians making their home on the hill that rises 777 feet above sea level. Take a gander at the World War I statue outside the shop and enjoy!
