Today, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney tweeted in response to Politico's Chief Economic Correspondent Ben White, who tweeted, "Because if the White House does not actually care how long the shut down goes on that's a really bad thing. Furloughed workers care."
White's tweet was referencing an article from the Wall Street Journal yesterday that cited a senior administration official as saying,
"We are winning...It doesn't really matter to us" how long the shutdown lasts "because what matters is the end result."
Carney tweeted in response, saying "This is absurd. POTUS wants the shutdown to end NOW. Speaker can do that NOW by putting a clean CR to a vote."
When White clarified that he was referencing the Wall Street Journal article, Carney replied,

For anyone paying attention, the political games coming from the White House are clear. As reported by Liberty Unyielding, Senator Ted Cruz said during his 21 hour speech warning of Obamacare,
“You don’t see Democratic Senators talking about all the people who are losing their jobs, you don’t see Democratic Senators talking about all those people having their hours reduced or all the people seeing skyrocketing health insurance premiums, or who are losing their health insurance. Instead, we see Democratic Senators going on television and saying: Well, if they stick to their guns on this, it is going to shut down the government.”
It is past time for President Obama to come to the table.
