'The Wet Secrets', from 'Sunshine' to 'Nightlife'

A band that has recently caught our attention is The Wet Secrets, which recently played at the South By Southwest (SXSW) festival. Even if you are not a fan of “indie” rock, the music videos for this group make them worth the listen. The drummer of the band, Trevor Anderson, is also a filmmaker. His talent shines through when he directs a music video.

Their newest single, “Sunshine” has a lyric video set up like a sing-along with light projectors and a laser pointer. Cats batting at the red dots are following along with the music and acting as spectators. This is a very cutesy and cheeky way to present such serious lyrics involving death. The juxtaposition of that is genius.

This discovery led to watching another video from the same album called “Nightlife.” This one was even more humorous. A Dracula-like vampire character played by Joe Flaherty goes out into town with his old-school vampire tricks. There are references to the movie Twilight and “Thriller” by Michael Jackson. Spoilers: Dracula has dentures. And, it's hilarious.

Both of those songs are off of their album “Free Candy,” which was released this February. If you haven't guessed it already, the album has a theme involving death in a most upbeat and funny way. If you want to know more about this band which comes from Edmonton in the Alberta province of Canada, check out their website.
