The Weekend Ahead in Maine - New Year's Weekend 2012

The Week-End Ahead for New Year's has something for everyone who is willing to travel.

Here is a cross section of events for New Year's Weekend:

The Fort Kent Lions Club/Knights of Columbus New Year’s Eve Bash will kick off at 9 p.m. Saturday at the Fort Kent Knights of Columbus Hall with appetizers, a cash bar and live rock ’n’ roll music by Lions band Boomer-ang.  The $20-per-person admission price includes a chicken stew meal as the clock ticks down the final moments of 2011.

“People can come and dance for four hours or just socialize,” said Marc Chasse, a Fort Kent Lions Club member. “We really want to see this turn into a big annual event.”  About 30 years ago it was a big event, Chasse said, recalling the days when tickets to the Lions’ New Year’s Eve ball went on sale the day after Christmas and were sold out by noon the same day.  “We’d like to bring that enthusiasm back,” he said.

Along with the cash bar, organizers are offering free soda to any designated drivers attending the event.  Proceeds from the ticket sales will benefit community projects sponsored by the Lions and Knights of Columbus.  Tickets are available from Nadeaus’ House of Furniture in Fort Kent or from Grand Knight Warren Harvey.

If driving is out of the question due to the weather, check out the events in your area for New Year's celebrations.  Whatever you do, drive safely and have fun without alcohol.  God bless you from the Northern Maine Christianity reporter, Gary Hill, Madawaska, ME.

If you have events email them to me at gehill@yahoo.com.  I will be glad to speak at your church or event.  Please email the date and time of the event, and the point of contact with a phone number.  My calling from God is evangelism and eschatology.  With that said, there is a strong need for the body of Christ to be ready for whatever the future brings, including the rapture.  I look forward to hearing from you.
