With the month of January winding down, the winter season may not be the prime weather to go out to network, but there were plenty of networking events in the Columbus area, and there still are events going on at the end of this month and the beginning of February.
Tonight at the Mellow Mushroom in Dublin, there will be a presentation entitled "Personal Branding and Social Media", which is a collaborative effort with the Young Professionals organizations of Upper Arlington and Dublin, and the Dublin Chamber of Commerce.
Tomorrow morning at the Bogey Inn and Grill, near the Columbus Zoo in the village of Shawnee Hills in Dublin, Columbus Business First is having the first of eight free networking Breakfasts, as part of their Breakfast with Business First series. People who attend make new contacts and grow their business. There is also the opportunity to pitch story ideas to Business First editors and reporters.
Tomorrow afternoon at the Berwick Plaza on Refugee Road in Southeast Columbus, the Southeast Franklin County Chamber of Commerce, which includes the communities of Obetz, Groveport, and Canal Winchester, will have a business expo from 4:30 to 7:00.
Between 80 and 90 percent of all jobs are found through networking, meeting someone who knows someone that may be a good lead in your job search. However, networking is not limited to Chamber of Commerce events and Networking Events, as Job Fairs are a good way to make contacts.
February will kick off with a Job Fair on Wednesday February 1, put together by local television station WSYX ABC-6, as part of the station's "ABC6 Job Boot Camp Series", which the station does on a quarterly basis. This year, all four Job Boot Camps will be held at the Aladdin Shrine Temple in Northeast Columbus.
Among the networking events in February in the Columbus area include an Experience Columbus After Hours with Big Fish Networking at Creekside Conference and Event Center in Gahanna (February 8), Network Columbus at new retail store Suite Q in the Short North (February 8), and "Extreme Makeover: Social Media Edition" at Driven Automotive in Sunbury (February 3).
