August is Riesling month at Madrona. The El Dorado County winery produces a variety of wines including dry (available: 2007 Madrona Single Vineyard, $26; 2011 Signature Dry Riesling, $18) and sweet Riesling (available: 2008 Select Harvest, $24/375 ml). The wines will be featured during each weekend in August in the tasting room. In addition to the Riesling event, the winery will join Smith Flat House for a food-and-wine pairing dinner on August 20, 6-9 pm at this interesting Placerville facility (2021 Smith Flat Road, Placerville) which features food service as well as medical practice.
Madrona’s tasting room opens daily from 11 am to 5 pm. Wine tasting is free for regular wines and $5 for reserve wines. The winery is located at 2560 High Hill Road, Camino.
Annual wine sale at two Amador County wineries. On Saturday August 24, (11 am – 5 pm), Vino Noceto (11011 Shenandoah Road, Plymouth) and Terre Rouge/Easton Wines (Dickson Road and Shenandoah Road, Plymouth) will co-hold their annual wine sale. This is an event for the wineries to organize their inventory for the coming wine season and for the consumers to get some good deals (hopefully). Hors d’oeuvres will be served.
Vino Noceto is a small family-owned winery that specializes in sangiovese. It also makes frivolo, zinfandel, barbera, and grappa. Terre Rouge/Easton Wines features Rhone varieties and traditional California varieties.
