The week ahead: 'Taken 2,' 'Won't Back Down,' 'The Possession' and more

Parents trying to protect their kids is the theme in three of the movies that premiere on demand from January 14 to January 20, 2013. Liam Neeson is a father on a rescue mission in "Taken 2," Viola Davis and Maggie Gyllenhaal are mothers fighting for a better education for their children in "Won't Back Down," and Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Kyra Sedwick are parents who have a daughter possessed by an evil spirit in "The Possession." January 15, 2013: "Taken 2" (Same day as DVD, weeks before Netflix and Redbox releases) Rated PG-13.

Liam Neeson is back as retired CIA operative Bryan Mills in this sequel to the action blockbuster "Taken." This time, he's out to rescue not one but two kidnapped members of his family: his ex-wife (played by Famke Janssen) and his daughter (played by Maggie Grace).

In this drama, Viola Davis and Maggie Gyllenhaal are two mothers fighting for a better public-school education for their children. The movie takes place in Pittsburgh, but the movie's message is meant to reach anyone concerned about the state of education in public schools in the United States.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Kyra Sedgwick star in this horror flick as divorced parents whose elder daughter becomes possessed by an evil spirit after it is unleashed from a mysterious box that was purchased during a yard sale. But one of the parents doesn't believe in ghosts and has a hard time time being convinced that an exorcism is needed.

January 15, 2013: "To Rome With Love" (Before DVD, weeks before Netflix release) Rated R.

In the romantic comedy "To Rome With Love," writer/director Woody Allen returns to acting in one of his movies. "To Rome With Love" has a large ensemble cast (including Penélope Cruz, Alec Baldwin, Jesse Eisenberg and Ellen Page), and the movie explores Allen's favorite themes of romance and infidelity.

January 15, 2013: "Detropia" (Same day as DVD, weeks before Netflix and Redbox releases) Rated TV-PG.

"Detropia" is documentary that chronicles the city of Detroit in an economic crisis. There was a time when Detroit was heralded as the birthplace of the middle-class, an industrial utopia where anyone who worked hard enough would experience the “American dream.” Today, Detroit is on the brink of bankruptcy.

Three men (played by Chris Messina, Rich Sommer, Tom O'Brien) who were friends in high school reunite in their hometown of Fairhaven, a small fishing village on the Massachusetts coast. Struggling to find their way, after a weekend together, the three friends realize that whatever life brings them, they will always have each other and it will always be good to go home.
