The Week Ahead: Pet-related Chicago events Jan. 30 - Feb. 5

It is a very busy week for fun activities to support Chicago’s animal rescue community. Here’s a quick rundown of the many events on tap to help out the animals.

Thursday, February 9

It is officially ladies' night out with a couple of options to help out animals in need whether you’d like to shop or show your more artistic side.

The 6th Annual Purr Party - Stop by the g boutique at 2131 N. Damen in Chicago for this event  to benefit ARFhouse Chicago from 7:30 until 10:30 p.m. Gear up for the weekend with a fun night of shopping, hors d’oeuvres, cocktails and auction items with a special goody bag for the first 25 guests. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door.

Grrrrrls Night Out – Stop by the Bottle & Bottega at 2900 N. Lincoln Avenue in Chicago for a fun hands-on art session between 7 and 10 p.m. You could paint a picture of your favorite pet or anything else that strikes your fancy. All proceeds will benefit the Little Barn, the new shelter opening this spring for Alive Rescue. Admission is $55 and you may take home your 16 x 20 masterpiece created at the event. Drinks, appetizers, silent auction and Stayin’ Alive gift bag. Register in advance online.

Saturday, February 11

There are a wide variety of activities slated for today to help you help your pets. There will be a pet first aid and CPR class at ACS to a concert for Felines and Canines and several other Valentine’s related events.

Pet First Aid and CPR Class - Learn how to save your pet in an emergency during this class at the Anti-Cruelty Society taught by an American Red Cross authorized instructor. Cat and dog manikins will be used (no pets allowed). The course will be from 9 a.m. until noon and the cost will be $50 with Dog and Cat First Aid DVDs and books included. The Anti-Cruelty Society is at 169 W. Grand in Chicago. Register in advance at tbouschor@anticruelty.org.

Valentine’s Photos - Stop by The Buddy Foundation at 65 West Seegers in Arlington Heights for a this funphoto shoot between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. You’ll receive a photo for a $7.50 donation to the shelter. Kids and pets are welcome and there will be hot dogs, chips, desserts and other fun stuff on tap.

Valentine’s Celebration and Dog Wash - Stop by Parker's, a Natural Dog & Cat Market at 1340-1342 E. 55th Street in Chicago between noon and 3 p.m. for a special benefit for Trio Animal Foundation. For $10, you’ll get your dog washed by a volunteer, do a paw painting Valentine’s Card with your dog, enjoy treats for people and pups and meet Jessica from Nature’s Variety for samples and coupons.

Whiskers and Whisky Music Event - Stop by the Atlantic Bar and Grill at 5062 N. Lincoln Avenue in Chicago for the Felines & Canines concert event. Tickets are $15 and the event runs from 7 to 10 p.m. No advanced reservations needed.

4th Annual Heart & Hounds Celebration - Support the Greyhound’s Only Rescue at this fun Valentine’s party from 7 until 10 p.m. at Chicago Party Animals at 1133 W. Fulton Market in Chicago. Romp, play, enjoy treats (people and dogs) and lots of good cheer. BYOB (bring your own blanket) and purchase tickets in advance for $35 or pay $40 at the door.
