Events at metro Denver animal shelters this week have a definite holiday feel.

The CAT CARE SOCIETY holds its annual Santa Paws Festival Dec. 6 and 7. It's a holiday tradition where volunteers at the Lakewood shelter show off their baking and wreath-making skills and raise money for the shelter's operation. New at this year's event are Jingle Cats and the Christmas Cat Auction.

Jingle Cats are 75 tchotchkes spray-painted "pearl mist" and adorned with red ribbon collars and brass bells. Those spending $100 or more at the Festival will get “pick of the litter” for their free gift. For the auction, volunteers have gathered a selection of 20 auction items.

Festival hours are Friday noon to 5 and Saturday 9 to 4:30. Visit www.catcaresociety.org for more information, including a full schedule of events. The Cat Care Society is at 5787 W. 6th Avenue.

PetSmart will provide the Santa outfit and the background for the photo, but will not provide cameras, photo printers, or the holiday photo frame. There is no charge to take a picture with Santa, but PetSmart is asking for a minimum $5 donation for Every Creature Counts.. More information: www.everycreaturecounts.org.
