The Baltimore writing scene is gearing up for a busy season. Please check the individual websites for details and last minute program changes.
September 7, 10:00 a.m.–noon – Maryland Writers’ Association Montgomery County Chapter meets at Montgomery College in Rockville. Baltimore poet Shirley Brewer will lead a creative workshop for all genres.
September 7, 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. – The Black Writers’ Guild is back from the summer break. This month’s featured speaker is James Wright, President of BWG. The meeting will be held at the Pennsylvania Branch of the Enoch Pratt Free Library. Members and first-time visitors are free. A $5 donation is requested for others.

September 13-15 – Registration is still open for the Creatures, Crimes & Creativity Literary Conference. Keynote speakers include Jeffery Deaver, John Gilstrap, Christopher Golden and Trice Hickman. The event will be held at the Hunt Valley Inn. Writers, readers, agents and editors will find many sessions to choose from during the three days. Full details are available on the conference website. Full conference cost: $275. Registration is available for single days. Discounts are available for some writers groups.
September 27-29 – The Baltimore Office of Promotion & the Arts brings the 2013 Baltimore Book Festival to life. Three days of readings, signings and other book-related activities for all ages. Participating writers groups include the Maryland Romance Writers, Maryland Writers’ Association, Science Fiction Writers of America and many others. Programming also includes live music on stage and costumed characters roaming the streets.
After an absence in 2012, the Baltimore Writers Conference returns November 16 with a full schedule. More details will be included in future articles.
