Maryland schools are gearing up for returning students. September also means it’s back to business for local writers’ groups. These meetings are a great way to make new connections, update skills and hear fellow writers speak on a variety of topics.
September 6, 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. – The Montgomery County chapter of the Maryland Writers’ Association meets at The Episcopal Church of the Ascension (205 South Summit Avenue, Gaithersburg, MD 20877). Author Tom Glenn presents The Forgotten Discipline: Fiction Craftsmanship. Members and guests are free. Returning non-members are $5.
September 6, 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. – The Black Writers’ Guild of Maryland returns from its summer break. Author K.L. Brady presents a discussion on The Do’s and Don’ts of Happy Writers (Who Are Pursuing Publishing Careers). The group meets at the Enoch Pratt Library (1531 W. North Ave). Newcomers and members can attend free; returning visitors and non-members are asked to donate $5. Membership fee for the group is $35 a year. Monthly meetings are held on the first Saturday of the month (except July and August).

Registration is still open for the Creatures, Crimes & Creativity convention scheduled for October 10-12, 2014. This is the second year for this literary convention. Check the website for the latest updates.
