The Week Ahead 3-19-13

Hello everyone and welcome to my weekly “The Week Ahead” article. Each week I'll be posting the details of the up coming big Magic the Gathering events here in Maine and on MTGO for the upcoming weekend and the next.

Looks like it's the simi-pro weekend with three cash price events down state.

Saturday, March 23rd

Double header. Starting at 11am is the TCGPlayer Gold Standard 1K. The event is standard with a cash payout to the top eight players minimum. And all the top sixteen get playmats. Entry fee is $25. This event will also have draft, standard, legacy, modern, and commander side events. Also that same day starting at 3PM is the Grand Prix Trial for Portland. $25 entry fee. $250 cash to 1st place and at least one box split between 2nd and 8th places.

Sunday, March 24

If you are still not sick of Magic, like you get sick of this game, and you're still in Standish at 11AM their will be a Road to the Maine 5K trial. Again it's standard with an entry fee of $15. First place gets $100 and 2nd to 8th place split at least a box with more packs based upon the number of players.

Over at J&R Cards they are having Spilt the Gate II. The event is standard with a $15 entry fee. First place gets $7 per player in the evnet and the rest of the top eight get packs based upon showing.

Next weekend and this is the weekend I want to come down for is the Standard Tournament for a Beta Mox Jet at Grinders Games in Wells, Maine. I belive that pre-registration is over so if you aren't already signed up this is going to cost you $40 at the door. Doors will open at 8:30AM and the event kicks off witht eh palyer metting at 10AM. In addition to the Beta Mox for first palce the top four will be getting playmats. 2nd place gets 3 Booster boxes, 3-4th get 1 booster box. 5th- 8th each gets 18 packs. And if 64 or more players turn out 9-16th get 6 packs. Granted they need 40 players to show up so they can have the above prizes, so pack a car and get down there. If they have less than 40 players 100% of the total taken in entry fees will go into the prize pool.

Hmm, yeah. I'm going to see about getting off work for this event. If anyone in the Houlton area wants to go, get in touch with me. As always if I'm coming down for the event I'll be running a trival contest so make sure to check out next week's article.
