The Week Ahead 2-18-13

Hello everyone and welcome to my weekly “The Week Ahead” article. Each week I'll be posting the details of the up coming big Magic the Gathering events here in Maine and on MTGO for the upcoming weekend and the next.

This weekend the paper action is all down state in Brunswick and Augusta.

Sunday, February 24th

Game On Cafe, Augusta, is hosting a qualifier for the Maine 5K in November. The format for the qualifier is Standard with a $25 buy-in. First place gets a bye to the 5K event. Cash prizes. All player earn points towards a bye as well.

For those looking for byes for Grand Prix San Diego you can head over to J&R Cards in Brunswick. Standard format with a $15 entry fee. $100 minimum travel money for 1st place (more based on attendance) and a 3 round bye at Grand Prix Indianapolis, 2nd-8th will split a booster box of Gatecrash.

Both of these events will be starting at noon, but make sure to get there early to register, trade, and/or buy those last minute cards or new sleeves.

Saturday, March 2nd

J&R Cards will be hosing Grand Prix Trial – Pittsburgh. Doors open at 10am with registration to end at 11:30am, and round one kicking off at noon. Prizes: $100 minimum travel money for 1st place (more based on attendance) and a 3 round bye at Grand Prix Indianapolis, 2nd-8th will split a booster box of Gatecrash. Entry fee is $15 and the format is Standard.

Still looking for those buys to San Diego? Game On Cafe is having their GTP for SD starting at 1pm so you;ll want to get their by noon to register and set settled in. This event is Standard format with a $15 entry.

Spell Bound in Waterville is also having their GPT of San Diego this day as well. This is also a Standard format event with a $15 buy-in starting at 1pm.

Sunday, March 3rd

For those of you looking to win a seat on the Pro Tour you have better be heading to Crossroad Games in Standish. Doors are opening at 9am and the games start at 10:30am. Modern Format and a $25 entry fee. There will be free drafts to the first 16 players that drop from the event. Other side events include Booster Drafts, Win-a-Box (standard, legacy, and modern), and Commander Chaos Mulit-player.

Also on Sunday, Game Citadel in Bangor is hosting their San Diego Grand Prix Trial. This event starts at 1pm and has an entry fee of $15.

As for the MTGO players it's the weekend of the Magic Online Championship Series (MOCS) Preliminaries. These are on February 22nd at 9pm EST, and February 23rd at 9am, 3pm, and 9pm. These events are by invited only if you have enough MOCS qualifier points. These events will feed the MOCS Season 2 Finals on March 2nd at 2pm. If you didn't get enough points this season for the MOCS, remember that the Gatecrash Release Events are still going on MTGO until March 1st. The Gatecrash Release events with be topped off with the Gatecrash Championship on March 3nd at 1pm.

That's the week ahead and beyond. My current plans are to make it to Spell Bound for the GPT on the 2nd. Just need to get the time off from work. Once I got the thumbs up for the day off I'll be posting details on a special prize to my readers that you can win at the event. This has been...
