The weather a factor for the State Line Amateur Tour at Paradise Pointe

The State Line Amateur Tour sponsored by the Kansas City Golf Association visited Smithville, Mo. to play the Paradise Pointe Golf Complex on Wednesday May 15. The players faced May temperatures that barely rose above 50 and winds of 20 to 25 m.p.h. Tough weather conditions seem to be the norm for the amateur golf tour this season.

In the Open Division, gross scoring Derek Nicholson, Don Walsworth, and Jon Troutman all posted scores of five over par 77 to tie for first place. In net scoring Nicholson remained in first place and tied with Jason Cross with an adjusted score of five over par 77. Troutman dropped to third with an adjusted score of six over par 78.

Mark Worthey scored a four over par 76 to take first place in the Players Division, gross scoring. Michael Buckhouse finished in second with six over par and Greg Hillman finished two shots back of Buckhouse for third. A tie resulted in the adjusted net scores for Dale Hotop and Worthey with scores of one under par 71. Third place went to Hillman with an adjusted even par round.

At three over par Ed Walsworth and Charlie Schorgl tied for first place posting a 75 each to tie for first place in the Senior Division, gross scoring. Third place went to Dave Kirschbaum with a score of five over par 77. Walworth remained in first in net scoring with an adjusted even par round and Schorgl dropped to second with a two over par 74. One stroke back was Mark Hittner with an adjusted score of 75.

Competition in the Legends Division, gross scoring ended with a seven over par finish for leader Ronnie Walters. Mitch Bowen finished in second with a score of 81 and one shot back Ron Brewer finished at 82 for third place. Walters remained on top with an adjusted score of one over par 73 in net scoring and Bob Hunter moved to second with a 75. Third place resulted in Brewer and Bill Willets posting adjusted scores of four over par 76.

Jettie Bezek shot a 15 over par 87 to take first place in the Women’s Players Division, gross scoring. Second place went to Karen Hass at 18 over par and Karen Shippy shot a 20 over par 92 to take third place. Hass moved from second to first in net scoring with an adjusted three over par 75. Shippy and Bezek tied for second with adjusted scores of seven over par 79.

The State Line Amateur Tour tees it up next at The Nicklaus Golf Club at Lionsgate in Overland Park on May 27.
