'The Ways We Work': Sportfishing boat chef takes the waves in stride

Welcome to the latest installment of The Ways We Work

Kathy Gluzinski may not have taken a vow to be there 'through thick and thin', but sit down with her for a few minutes and you'll hear some gritty tales that can match the best of any long time sea salt. You'll have to suffer a few interruptions, because this Ventura Sportfishing chef doesn't stay put for long! Gluzinski keeps the Island Spirit's crew and sportfishing guests fortified with tempting fare fresh from her galley, which on many occasions has rock and rolled with all the temperamental weather that can churn up on a moment's notice in the passage between Ventura Harbor and the fishing grounds around Channel Island.

While Gluzinski tells us that having chefs aboard charter boats is not at all unusual in southern California, it is practically non-existent in northern CA waters. So we were very pleasantly surprised to find a live chef aboard, and not just a concession stand.

Gluzinski serves up laughter and great chow in our exclusive video

Gluzinski was very generous with her time and in this posting's exclusive video, she shares what it's like to work under weather conditions that can greatly vary. As she mentions, in return for some dicey weather, there is no match for the glorious seascapes that she is privileged to experience daily. Spending just a few minutes with her, we quickly understood why, along with Island Spirit's expert crew, this party boat attracts such a great number of 'regulars' who come to chew the fat, spin a few 'sea salt' tales, and even catch some fish!

More sportfishing adventures to come

In a future installment we will report on the fishing adventure we had aboard Ventura Sportfishing's Island Spirit. So stay tuned! (By the way, click here to read about our kayaking adventure the previous day at the Channel Islands).
