'The Way, Way Back' premieres at 2013 Sundance Film Festival

Screenwriters Nat Faxon and Jim Rash will premiere their directorial debut "The Way, Way Back" at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival on Jan. 21.

The coming-of-age comedy stars Sam Rockwell, Steve Carell, Maya Rudolph, AnnaSophia Robb, Allison Janney, Rob Corddry, Liam James, Amanda Peet and more.

Faxon and Rash are best known for winning the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay along with director Alexander Payne for "The Descendants." They are also both accomplished comedic actors: Rash currently stars in the hit NBC series "Community," and Faxon plays the titular Ben in Fox’s new comedy series "Ben and Kate."

Rockwell can also be seen in the upcoming comedy drama "Better Living Through Chemistry" about a straight-laced pharmacist whose uneventful life spirals out of control when he starts an affair with a trophy wife customer who takes him on a joyride involving sex, drugs and possibly murder.

Here's "The Way, Way Back" synopsis:

The film tells the story of 14-year-old Duncan’s awkward, funny, and sometimes painful summer vacation with his mother, Pam, her overbearing boyfriend, Trent, and his daughter, Steph. Although Duncan has a tough time fitting in and finding his place, he does find an unlikely ally and mentor in Owen, a carefree employee at the local water park where Duncan gets a job. Over the course of the summer, as his mother drifts further away, Duncan—with encouragement from Owen—begins to open up and come into his own.
