Dara Torres, the swimming phenom who inspired millions of amateur athletes by medaling in last summer's Olympics at age 41, isn't the only 40-plus athlete doling out motivation.
Debi Bernardes, a swimming and triathlon coach in King George, Va., was recently profiled in US News & World Report after finishing fifth among amateur females in the Dextro Energy Triathlon in Washington, D.C., last month -- at age 50. According to the magazine, she maintained a 6:51-minute-mile pace during the 10K.
