The Washington area's own Dara Torres

Debi Bernardes competes in the DC area.

Dara Torres, the swimming phenom who inspired millions of amateur athletes by medaling in last summer's Olympics at age 41, isn't the only 40-plus athlete doling out motivation.

Debi Bernardes,  a swimming and triathlon coach in King George, Va., was recently profiled in US News & World Report after finishing fifth among amateur females in the Dextro Energy Triathlon in Washington, D.C., last month -- at age 50. According to the magazine, she maintained a 6:51-minute-mile pace during the 10K.

Check out the full profile, including Bernardes' tips for performing your best at any age, here. A few snippets: As she's gotten older, Bernardes has focused on consuming more lean protein and fewer comfort foods. She's focused on keeping her hips and core stable with CrossFit workouts and yoga. And she's started setting focused goals for each workout.

Who motivates you? What are your best tips for continuing to perform your best as you get older? Share your thoughts by posting a comment!
