SAN FRANCISCO -- The Golden State Warriors popularity has surged with the team's recent success in the playoffs. As the franchise embarks on its 52nd season in the Bay Area, the lovely and talented Warrior Girls are in their 28th year entertaining fans.
Not only do they provide exciting and fun in-game entertainment, off the court, they serve as ambassadors for the organization. All the dancers participate in team community outreach programs and have also performed throughout the United States and around the world.
This year, the Warrior Girls had their first ever off-site calendar release party at EPIC Roasthouse in San Francisco, just a short walk from the team's proposed new waterfront arena.
Part of the fun at the release party is the unveiling of the swimsuit photos and each of the 20 beautiful dancers posed with their portraits. Among them is rookie Clarice, 23 from San Ramon who is ecstatic to be on the squad.
"It's so much fun. It's something that I've never experienced before. I've done college cheer and high school. I've danced throughout my whole entire life but this just a completely different level. The fans are absolutely insane. So when you go out there you have so much energy, so much fun, it's indescribable."
And Clarice says it was surreal looking at her photos. "It's crazy, I feel like that's not even me...like who is that girl? Everyone looks great, this is a really amazing calendar, all the girls look absolutely beautiful. "
The final photo to be revealed was that of sixth year veteran, Casey, 23 from Danville who is one of the team captains. She was chosen to be the cover of the glossy calendar which was shot in South Lake Tahoe. She says after all these years it's still a thrill to represent the Warriors.
"It never gets old. Every year is a new experience and a new group of girls and it's always an amazing season, an amazing time getting to know one another and I think the calendar represents everything there is about the Warrior Girls. We put so much work into training and dancing and it's kind of an art so it's always reinvigorating."
And Casey says as the team has improved, so have the Warrior Girls.
"The playoffs last year, that was the second time the team's been there in 19 years. That's a lot of pressure for us because we want to perform our best too. We want to show that every year we're getting better and better so we practice three to four times a week and a lot of hours gets put into it so we want the fans to have the best experience."
After the reveal and autographing the calendar for fans in attendance, the ladies posed for a group photo along the waterfront, showcasing their beauty against the scenic views of the western span of the Bay Bridge.
