You can win first place with this "Walking Dead" Halloween costume idea as you head out to your Halloween parties this weekend. You need to prepare the zombie clothes a day in advance, as they need time to dry.
DIY "The Walking Dead" zombie costume from head to toe:
Zombie hair: Dampen your hair, not to the point where it is dripping wet, but just enough so it has some moisture to it. Next take flour and rub it through your hair and twirl your fingers to make it look like old forgotten dreadlocks in some areas. Now you have zombie hair.
Zombie face and makeup: Dampen your face and rub the powdered flour all over it. Make a thick paste out of flour and water and puts some clumps in different areas of your face. Let this dry completely and it will crack, giving you the look of old-dead skin.
Use black face paint to make a shadow underneath your eyes. You want your lips to stay white. Make a mixture of flour and water to the point where it slowly drips if you splash it on something, then pour several drops of red food coloring into the mixture. You want the color blood-red when you are done mixing it. Keep adding drops of red food coloring to get just the right blood color.
Drip this mixture around your mouth. Now your zombie face and hair is complete. Close your eyes and lightly spray hair spray over your hair to keep it in place.
Zombie clothes: (You want to do this a day in advance of your party or affair, so the clothes have time to dry.) Pick out a shirt and a pair of paints and rip them enough so they look fairly beaten up. You want to shred the clothes in places rather than putting holes in them. Mix flour and water in the sink or a tub. This mixture should be very watery. Next dip your clothes in this mixture a few times, taken them out, ringing them and soaking the again.
After a few times, ring the clothes out and hang them outside to dry. Do not rinse, you want the flour to dry on the fabric. The clothes will look like they are cracking when dry. If you want more blood, use the food coloring mixture that you did for around your mouth to decorate your clothes. Now you have a complete zombie outfit.
Zombie Shoes: Use an old pair of slippers or shoes, so you can rip them. As an alternative, take an old towel and cut it in strips about three-inches wide and the length of the entire towel. Dip these in water with red food coloring and let them dry outside. Tie these strips around your shoes so they almost look like bleeding mummy feet.
If you want to go all the way zombie, grab a zombie accessory, like a zombie baby. Read about the zombie baby here:
