Those that have read the comics know who Father Gabriel is. However, those who have only seen the television show "The Walking Dead" have no idea who he is or what he is about. On May 16, MoviePilot published some information about Father Gabriel Stokes and what viewers might expect to see if he shows up in season 5.
Seth Gilliam has been added to the cast for season 5 with his character said to be Michael Todd. However, many fans believe that he will really be playing Father Gabriel Stokes. So who is this guy and what kind of role did he have in the comic books?
Father Gabriel met Rick and the group while they were on the road. They had just escaped the Governor's prison attack. Before the zombie apocalypse, he was the reverend of a local community church. He admitted to Rick that at the beginning, he actually turned people away. Stokes listened to men, women and children screaming as the walkers attacked them. There is speculation that after Rick and the others get out of Terminus that they might meet Stokes as they travel.
In the comics, Father Gabriel's church became a target for the Hunters, a group of cannibals. Dale ends up being kidnapped by them and loses his leg. Many fans suspect that Gareth and the others at Terminus on the show are a twist of the Hunters. Also, there will be a new character on the show named Burton. He is missing a leg, so some fans are wondering if comic book Dale's experiences will be put into Burton's storyline.
A search party is formed to locate the Hunters. When they are found, Rick ends up brutally torturing and murdering them, right in front of Gabriel. When the reverend becomes outraged at what Rick has done, he explains that the church leader was no better when he let innocent survivors die outside of his church.
On the television show "The Walking Dead," Beth was kidnapped and some are wondering if Father Gabriel is the one who took her. As Daryl tried to chase the car that took her, a cross was seen. Sometimes the show keeps characters pretty much the same and other times they are completely different. What will Gabriel's storyline be when "The Walking Dead" season 5 airs on AMC?
