'The Walking Dead' spoilers: Robert Kirkman talks season 5

On Monday, March 31 Entertainment Weekly posted an interview with Robert Kirkman, comic book creator and executive producer on the AMC television drama "The Walking Dead," who revealed what fans can expect from the upcoming fifth season.

The season four finale left off with a major cliffhanger, and the fate of all of the prison survivors and the new characters is completely up in the air. Kirkman mentioned that the six month hiatus until the shows return in October was the reason behind the cliffhanger, but "it all came naturally from the story," and that Terminus is a "great place to leave things."

Kirkman revealed that the truth about Terminus will be revealed in the season five premiere, and "what it is that Rick Grimes and everybody else are up against." All the answers will be given and some of the speculation about who the Terminus people are is correct and some of it is way off.

The series likes to keep the fans guessing by killing of characters unexpectedly, introducing new characters from the comics, and using time jumps. Kirkman would not confirm if season five would begin with a time jump, but several characters will be returning as season regulars. Rosita Espinosa (Christian Serratos), Gareth (Andrew J. West) and Tara (Alanna Masterson) have been upgraded to series regulars by AMC. Abraham Ford and Eugene Porter are also expected to appear in major roles.

Filming for the fifth season will begin during the first week of May, with actors arriving outside Atlanta in the last week of April. Signs depicting filming locations have already been spotted and Terminus will be a major location for the premiere episode, which is an old train depot. The sixteen episode season is scheduled to premiere in October.

The recently announced spin-off series to "The Walking Dead" also received a new executive producer this week, and that series is currently on track to arrive in 2015. The series, which will be developed by Kirkman and David Erickson, is expected to take place in the same universe as the original series, but follow different people and ideas.
