"The Walking Dead" creator Robert Kirkman spoke to Access Hollywood on Feb. 9 about the returning hit show based on his popular comic book. In the interview, Kirkman touched on both the eventual confrontation between Rick Grimes and The Governor as well as the upcoming introduction to popular comic character Tyreese.
Fans of the comics known Tyreese well, but for those who only know about the television show, Tyreese was Rick's right hand man in the comics from the start. However, with the television show greatly extending Shane's life, Tyreese was not needed because Shane filled that position with much more drama involved.
However, Tyreese was one of the comic's most beloved characters during this run with the survivors.
“We’ve seen a lot of characters – The Governor and even Rick to a certain extent — are losing their humanity in this world and Tyreese is a character who has somehow been able to maintain that,” Kirkman said. “He’s a good natured, good at heart guy, who is really not gonna fit in well in this world, so we’re gonna have a lot of fun exploring that.”
Of course, while they have Tyreese providing some much needed humanity back to the group, the one thing on the fan's minds is the upcoming war between Rick and The Governor, which will start here in the second half of season three of "The Walking Dead."
Kirkman said there is a moment in this second half of the season that will be a "jaw dropping" moment that will set everything in motion. He said the moment that Rick and The Governor face off, it will be a moment the fans of the show won't forget.
And one last spoiler is that, while Robert Kirkman has been quiet about the fate of Daryl, someone who never existed in the comics, he did make one statement that should put the hearts of Daryl's fans at ease. When asked about a love interest, he said "we’ll see some stuff like that for Daryl at some point," making it sound like Daryl will make it out of Woodbury alive.
"The Walking Dead" returns to AMC on Feb. 10 at 9 p.m. EST.
