The “Home” episode 10 of season three of AMC's “The Walking Dead” zombie drama aired Feb. 17, 2013.
In last week's episode, fans saw Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) take off into the woods with his trusty crossbow and brother Merle Dixon (Micheal Rooker) after Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) said Merle was not welcome back at the prison.
In “Home", Daryl made another choice. After saving a Spanish speaking family from a walker attack, he realized Merle was not the person with whom he wanted to share his time.
In an argument just before the zombie herd attack, Daryl finally tells Merle what's been on his mind:
“You lost your hand because you were a simpleminded piece of sh%t.”
He adds:
“I may be the one walking away but your the one who's leaving again.”
In the scene, you learn both Merle and Daryl were physically abused by their father. When Merle tries to get Daryl up from the floor by his t-shirt, he accidentally rips Daryl's shirt, revealing old scars.
Merle almost instantly recoils. You see another side of him – an almost softer, remorseful big brother emerges if only for a few seconds. He admits he left Daryl to suffer at the hands of their father because he too was abused.
Once the are done rescuing the Spanish speaking family, Daryl turns away from Merle and starts walking in the direction of the prison. Merle, seemingly left without any other alternatives, walks right behind him.
