Fans of “The Walking Dead” are thrilled to hear the news on Sept. 16 that there is a spin-off show officially in development with AMC. E! Online shared the details revealed so far, and fans will be anxious to learn more.
David Alpert, Gale Anne Hurd and Robert Kirkman will be executive producers of the new show, which will debut in 2015. What will the show entail? It seems it will be all-new characters and story, but still focus on “'The Walking Dead' universe.” Kirkman says, “The opportunity to make a show that isn't tethered by the events of the comic book, and is truly a blank page, has set my creativity racing.”
This is an interesting and exciting avenue for fans. While “The Walking Dead” has ventured away from the specifics of the comic book series at times, fans do still tend to expect the basics to remain the same. Taking the concept behind the series but spinning it off to create new characters and a new pocket of the same universe could be an engaging and massive hit.
Season 4 of “The Walking Dead” hits AMC this fall with what Kirkman says is the best season yet. Of course it will be a while before “The Walking Dead” spin-off is fully developed and on the air, but “TWD” fans will be watching closely to see just where things head with it.
“The Walking Dead” season 4premieres on AMC Sunday, Oct. 13.
