Season 5 of ‘The Walking Dead” won’t air until October…six long months from now, but the good news is that the cast is heading back to work in Georgia now. Soon we will be reading all sorts of spoilers for the AMC zombie series. Yesterday, Entertainment Weekly shared some thoughts from Norman Reedus, who plays fan favorite Daryl Dixon on the show, on what he knows about the next season.
Reedus was asked directly what show creator Robert Kirkman and showrunner Scott Gimple had already told him about season 5. His answer was very to-the point. “A bit.”
The actor expounded a little more on what he took away from his chats with them men behind the show. “Those guys are very good at telling you a bunch of stuff, and you sit there for an hour and you walk away and go, ‘What the hell did he just say? What’s going on?’ They’re very good at masking what they want to tell you.”
While he wasn’t at liberty to share specifics, Reedus did share his opinion on what season 5 of “The Walking Dead” will be like for Daryl and his companions, most of who are trapped with him in that boxcar at Terminus. “From what I know, it’s gonna be just completely insane,” he says. “I sort of knew I needed like a good month to rest to jump in. The storyline they’re throwing me is a thousand miles an hour.”
Scott Gimple said in a recent interview, quoted by International Business Times, the tone of then next season will be “very, very, very intense.” He said he loved the way the second half of season played out, referring to the slower paced episodes that allowed the characters to more fully develop. Season 5, according to the showrunner will take things in a new direction. It will be a “big shifts.” Reedus’s comments seem to confirm that.
With the gang trapped in that boxcar, the immediate need will be for them to escape. This seems to suggest an action-filled start, especially when you factor in Rick’s last comment about not knowing who they’re screwing with.
