Eevryone agrees that the new season will be the "bloodiest" and most "action packed" season eve on the series. Actress Lauren Cohan, who plays Maggie Greene, mentioned that some of the scenes filmed for the first few episodes may be too intense to make the final cut of the episode. The series is used to pushing the boundaries for gore and violence after events like children becoming walkers and increasingly dangerous adversaries that seem mentally unhinged.

Actor Andrew Lincoln, who plays Rick Grimes, revealed that the new season will focus on the hierarchy of the group now that everyone is back together. After the prison attack, the group went different ways to escape death and most of them were reunited at the end of season four after ending up in the train car at Terminus. The group has spent so much time separated they will have to figure out who each member fits into the group.

Greg Nicotero, a special effects makeup artist who is also directing the first episode of the new season, mentioned that the premiere is "very fast paced" and ambitious unlike previous season premieres. Previous spoilers have hinted that a major battle takes place at Terminus with explosions and burning walkers. The location is no longer being used and filming has taken place all over Georgia since the beginning of May.

On July 2 Wetpaint Entertainment posted photos of actors Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride filming together in Georgia, which hints that Carol and Tyreese make it to Terminus early in the new season. The pair, who play Daryl Dixon and Carol Peletier, have both been on the show since season one but were separated after the prison attack. Other principal characters like Glenn, Maggie, Carl, Eugene, and Abraham have been spotted filming in various cities, checking houses and finding shelter.

Actress Emily Kinney, who plays Beth Greene, was spotted briefly on set after performing a concert in the area. Beth was kidnapped during last season by a car with a cross in the back window, and fans have speculated that the driver is Father Gabriel Stokes from the comic books. Executive producers have mentioned in the past that fans won't leaner what happened to her right way, but newcomer Seth Gilliam has been seen on the set dressed like a priest and filming.

The fifth season will once again consist of sixteen episodes, with eight premiering in late 2014 and the other eight airing in early spring 2015. The series changes focus every eight episodes, although there are a lot of questions still unanswered about the back half of season four. Robert Kirkman has revealed that fans will leaner the truth about Terminus early in season five, and more stories from the comic books will be adapted for the series. The fifth season is expected to debut in October, and AMC is hoping the renew the series due to consistently high ratings.
