'The Walking Dead' season 5: Scott Gimple talks about Beth

The question of Beth's whereabouts on "The Walking Dead" has been on everyone's mind and it came as a surprise to some viewers when there were no clues as to what happened to her on the season 4 finale. There have been quite a few speculations, but no solid spoilers yet. So what has happened to Beth Greene? Will fans ever see her again? On April 3, AMC posted an interview with showrunner Scott Gimple and the subject of Beth's kidnapping was brought up.

On the episode titled "Us," Daryl and Beth were battling zombies one minute and then when Daryl went outside to meet her, she was gone. A black car sped off and her bag was left behind. Daryl tried to track the vehicle but eventually gave up hope. On the season finale, Daryl and Rick met up and all that was said about her was that she was "just gone."

There have been a lot of theories about what has happened to Beth. Some believe that she was taken by the folks at Terminus, either to be eaten or is being programmed to become one of them. Others say that she was kidnapped by a religious fanatic who is holding her in a church to "save her." Then there are the theories that she is dead already, was taken to be one of several wives or that she will be used as a bargaining chip at some point in the future.

While Scott Gimple didn't reveal exactly what happened to her, he did say that fans will find out and it will be when "The Walking Dead" season 5 airs in October 2014.

"I will say Beth, in some state, is totally somewhere," Gimple said. " I’ll say then, that that’s going to be answered next season. And I’m really excited to tell everybody the answer. It might be a little heartbreaking, it might be a little heartwarming, but it’s going to be interesting."

So if Beth is "somewhere," then that sounds like she might be alive. As for the heartbreaking part, that could be just about anything. She could be tortured, forced to do things she doesn't want to do or maybe she is at Terminus and they will make her choose between her life and the lives of her friends. But then the "heartwarming" part is a bit more confusing. It's hard to imagine that she was kidnapped only to be living a wonderful life. It seems more likely that the "heartwarming" part will either have to do with her and the group being reunited or perhaps the theory that she will be the one to save Rick and company will pan out.

Fans will have to wait until "The Walking Dead" season 5 airs in October 2014 to find out for sure what happened to Beth and how her story will play out.
