The conditions in the prison on "The Walking Dead" continue to get worse and it's possible the group will have to leave in the future. On Monday, October 28 Wetpaint Entertainment posted spoilers about the Sanctuary, a safe zone that exists in the comics and could be coming on the AMC television series.
In the comic book series, the Sanctuary is a safe zone that exists in Alexandria, Virginia outside Washington D.C. Rick and the other prison survivors travel there after meeting three other survivors who tell them they can get information about the cause of the zombie apocalypse in the area.
Those three characters are Rosita Espinosa, Sergeant Abraham Ford, an Dr. Eugene Porter. The characters will first appear later in the fourth season and will be series regulars. Rosita is played by "Twilight" actress Christian Serratos, Ford is portrayed by actor Michael Cudlitz and Porter is played by Josh McDermitt. The casting and the recent new filming locations for the series suggests that the prison group will probably leave their safe haven behind for somewhere new.
The Sanctuary was first hinted during the radio transmission Daryl, Michonne, Bob and Tyreese heard while driving to the veterinary school to get medical supplies for the prison. The signal was weak and only mentioned survival before the herd of walkers took the group's attention. It's possible the signal was from Fort Benning, since the survivors were headed there before finding the farm, although it is believed to be over run with walkers.
Another possibility is the Sanctuary is actually not a safe zone and the radio transmission is just to get other survivors to the northern Virginia area so The Saviors can find them. The Saviors are a group of individual survivors with a vicious leader much like The Governor and Woodbury. They are a major issue in the comics, although the show tends to change up stories from the comics for the series.
The fourth episode of the season, "Indifference" will air in Sunday, November 3 and feature two different supply runs for medicine while everyone in the prison gets sicker. The Governor is expected to get two flashback episodes this season which could air before the midseason finale in December. The new characters and locations will most likely pop up in the second half of season four.
