After an unfairly long wait, "The Walking Dead" is back. On Sunday, October 13, AMC debuted "The Walking Dead" Season 4, episode one "30 Days Without An Accident." It has been a few months since the events in Season 3 took place, and fans learn what the gang has been doing. Note that spoilers are below if you missed the Season 4 premiere or are not caught up to "The Walking Dead."
The season kicks off with Rick, he is wearing headphones and steps out of the prison and into the fields. While planting some crops, he finds a gun buried there. Rick removes the earphones and the walkers around the gates come into focus. He chooses to ignore them, puts the music back on and goes on about his job.
There is another area in the prison that is set up to be an outdoor eating area, In there, the new and old members of the prison are enjoying food while children play around. Daryl and Carol are there, and she teases him with light flirting and it's pretty fun to watch.
By the fence, many are in charge of killing the walkers that are surrounding the prison gates. Among the people are Tyreese and Karen, along with new faces. Tyreese talks to Karen to tell her that he doesn't like gate-duty, and only volunteered to get to know her better - they kiss. Romance is also in the air for Beth, as she is seen kissing and talking to a young man, Zack.
Hershel joins Rick by the crops, and is giving him a lesson on planting. Hershel is now wearing a fake leg to help him walk. They are interrupted by Michonne, who is on her way in a horse and needs the gates of the prison to let her in. Once she is safe inside, she gives Carl a stack of comic books that she found on her run, and an electronic razor to Rick.
Rick is planning on going to the other side of the fence to see what the animal traps caught. Hershel talks to him before he leaves to tell him that the council (consisting of Daryl, Carol, Sasha and others) want him to take a gun. It is then assumed that since the last events, Rick chooses to no longer carry a gun or participate in any walker raids.
During his run, Rick stumbles across a woman who begs him for help. She wants Rick's help in taking a dead animal back to her husband, telling Rick that they haven't eaten in days. Rick hands her food, and she guesses that he must live in a have a camp nearby and asks if they can come along. Rick tells her yes, but that she must go back with him and answer three question to see if she can join them.
Michonne, Daryl, Tyreese, Glenn, and a couple of others are at the store when a loud noise catches the attention of several walkers on the roof. Due to their weight and the rotting condition of the roof, it begins to rain walkers as the roof breaks in.
In the meantime, Rick continues to follow the strange woman to where her suppose husband is at. They engage in conversation, mostly the woman, who tells Rick about how she ended up to where she's at. Once they arrive there, Rick realizes that the person she was talking about is dead and she wanted to feed him Rick. She then explains that she can't let him go and kills herself, begging Rick not to end her so she can be with her husband as a walker. Before her last breath, she asks Rick to tell her what the three questions were. Rick asks: "How many walkers have you killed? How many people have you killed? And why?"
Back at the store, the gang is dealing with a lot more walkers. They then realize that more than walkers are falling from the roof - there is also a helicopter about to come down on them. While trying to escape, Zack, Beth's new love interest, is bitten. Zack is left behind as the gang realizes there is no saving him.
In the prison, Carol is on story time duty with the children at the prison. After reading the story, she pulls out a set of knives to teach the kids how to use them. Carl is secretly watching and reveals himself when Carol takes the knives out. Carol sees him and asks him to please not tell Rick, Carl walks off.
Daryl goes to Beth's room to tell her about Zack. Beth straight up asks if he is dead, Daryl response only with his face expression and Beth simply says, "OK." She then removes the number 30 from a "Days Without An Accident" sign and leaves a zero behind. Beth then tells Daryl that she no longer cries and is just glad she got to know Zack.
Rick is now with Hershel and Judith, they are talking about the woman Rick tried to help.
The episode ends with one of the new members, a young boy named Patrick, having a bad cough and walking to the bathroom. He is not looking good at all. He attempts to take a shower to calm his cough and collapses, quickly turning in to a walker.
