'The Walking Dead' season 4 premiere: New love, new leg, new leader and zombies

The Walking Dead” Season 4 airs its premiere episode in less than a week and the spoilers are flaring up all over already. TV’s number one show for prime time’s key age group of 18-49 looks promising for another season of thrills and kills.

Rick is stepping back a bit on the leadership role this up and coming season and it will be Daryl who will fill in that gap of leader, according to the website Comic Book on Oct. 6.

Along with all the zombie, or walker, action, you will see Maggie making prison more like a home for Glen and the rest of their family. Although it looks more like home than it ever did, this nesting period is crudely interrupted, as you’d might expect from “The Walking Dead.”

Maggie is tired of just living to survive, she’s making changes to start living a life with the folks that she loves. Michonne is on a mission, she is tracking down the Governor, as he needs to pay for killing Andrea last season. She’ll bound to have something so gruesome planned when she finds the sick-minded Governor. Maybe she'll keep his head in a fish tank like he did with many of his kills.

One mission for Rick this season is to take Carl down a few notches when it comes to being a boy soldier. While Carl didn’t have much of a choice to step into a man’s shoes in this new world, Rick is going to lesson his burden a bit this season. But can he take the soldier out of the boy?

Hershel has got himself a new prosthetic leg and people are already buzzing about how he came across this leg in a world where you can’t even get a gallon of milk. Suggestions of Daryl finding the leg on one of his scavenger hunts have come up, but is that really likely unless it's found within the prison hospital? Wouldn’t it make more sense if a “Walking Dead” zombie was killed wearing a fake leg that just happened to be about Hershel’s size?

This season some of the characters will partner up and love interests bloom. This is made possible with all the new folks that jumped ship from Woodbury and bused into the prison at the end of last season. Karen, who’s reluctant to use the word “boyfriend," does get close to Tyreese. Sasha, Tyreese’s sister is feeling threatened by the new relationships developing.

Of course the scenes with zombies are sewn into the fabric of “The Walking Dead,” but will the writers find a new creative way to use the walking dead as they have in past seasons? Will they throw a little variety in their dead man walking shuffle?

The walkers coming out of Hershel’s barn with Carol's missing little girl among them was one creative zombie offering. A close second was the zombies coming out of the truck that the governor’s henchmen drove into the prison. That was another surprise use of the walkers in “The Walking Dead.”

What about Carol and Daryl? Will that ever happen, will the two become a couple? Seeing the transformation of Daryl from being bossed around by his brother and berated has been heart warming.

Now Daryl is a man who is ready to lead a group of people, who are counting on him to keep them safe. The same goes for Carol, she's found her inner strength after being under the guarded hand of her abusive husband, who is now deceased.
