Michonne has been secretive, guarded and distant ever since viewers met her on season 3 of "The Walking Dead." Even the group has grown to trust and care about her, she still hasn't been able to really bond or allow herself to get close to anyone. While the season 4 premiere did show her joking around with Carl a bit and actually smiling, there was still something holding her back. On the Oct. 20 episode, fans discovered what may have caused her to be that way and it is just heartbreaking.
On season 4, episode 2 there was a big problem with walkers on both the inside of the prison and the outside. During the zombie attack, Michonne hurt her ankle. While Beth bandaged her up, Michonne tells her that they should have left her out there because they could have gotten hurt. Beth explains that the group cares about her and the possibility of getting hurt is part of the package. Then they have a conversation about what you call someone who has lost a child. Michonne doesn't respond, but it appears as if the question struck a chord with her. Just then, baby Judith starts to cry, so Beth takes her out of the cell. The crying is echoing in Michonne's ears and she appears to feel some sort of pain from hearing a crying baby. Then Beth is singing a lullaby and the baby spits up on her. She rushes over to Michonne to ask her to hold the baby, but she doesn't want to and says "no" rather loudly. But then she reluctantly agrees, but holds the baby away from her, not wanting to look at baby Judith. Finally, she looks at her in the eyes, holds her close and starts to cry. It is obvious from her reaction, that she lost a baby. Now fans are wondering, did she lose a child a long time ago, or did it happen around the time that the dead started to rise?
It appears from Michonne's reaction on "Infected," that she never had the chance to grieve and that the emotions seem pretty raw. Most likely, the baby was lost around the time that the dead started to walk the earth.
What do you think about what happened in the episode titled "Infected?" Did Michonne lose a baby and if so, when did it happen? Could she have lost her child because of a walker? Do you think this will be explored more on season 4 of "The Walking Dead?"
