There’s really no arguing that both “The Walking Dead” and “Sons of Anarchy” are pretty violent shows. The action and drama in these programs are what make them so popular among fans, but not everyone appreciates the graphic storylines. According to The Hollywood Reporter, on Wednesday, December 11, a conservative group is bashing these shows and others for their gun violence just a year after the Newtown shootings.
THR reports that while visiting a film studio, President Barack Obama believes, “Hollywood is being hypocritical, by glamorizing gun violence while also advocating for more gun control.” The source also states that, the conservative group conducted a report and study to see what the most violent shows currently on television are.
“Authors of the study, which comes from the Culture and Media Institute, used Nielsen ratings to determine the most popular 20 dramas on television, then it watched the 14 episodes that aired from Dec. 1-7, just ahead of the anniversary of the real-life murders of 27 children and adults,” the source reads.
The study results were 145 acts of violence in the 14 shows that they studied. Most of them featured in gun battles in “The Walking Dead,” “NCIS: Los Angeles,” and “Sons of Anarchy.” Of course, from those top three, “The Walking Dead” takes the top spot with 20 acts of violence – this is without including zombie events, only live humans.
MRC vice president of business and culture, Dan Gainor, said about Hollywood stars wanting gun control, “Talk about tone-deaf. Quickly after Newtown, Hollywood released their video about how guns are bad. And now they’ve had a year to clean up their act, and TV is still a bloodbath.”
