This week Operation Teddy Bear provided backpacks to thousands of first grade students in Long Beach Unified School District. If that were not enough of an unforgettable treat, each backpack was filled with reading books, jumbo activity coloring books, pencils, paint sets, toothbrushes, and an adorable teddy bear.
The Volunteer Center of Long Beach, servicing LA county families for over 50 years, brightens the lives of first grade students each year through generous donations and the work of hundreds of volunteers. A few loving volunteers gave Burbank Elementary School a visit this week to spread the volunteer spirit of "Teddy Beary Tales" and left quite an impression on hundreds of children. “When I grow up I am going to be a volunteer so that I can make kids feel special too”, said an energetic first grader after receiving her surprise of a backpack filled with goodies.
With such an impactful and positive message every resident of Long Beach, Harbor, and the South Bay have the opportunity to share in the gift of giving through volunteering their most valuable asset of time.
