.And The Voice is…Tessanne Chin! The Jamaican native was crowned as the season five winner of the Emmy-award winning NBC musical competition Tuesday night.
“It was definitely an unforgettable moment,” Chin said. “It was unbelievable. Just complete shock. It just took over my body.”
Her stunned and emotional reaction was apparent during her performance of her new single written by OneRepublic’s Ryan Tedder, which Chin said was challenge to sing at that time. “That was torture! (Laughs) And worse off, you’re trying to debut the new single and so you want it to sound good,” said the Team Adam artist. “It was definitely hard. But it’s a moment you know? And being able to share it with my mom, my husband and my family, and with Adam, it was awesome!”
Another awesome and what is sure to be an unforgettable moment for Chin was her performance with music icon Celine Dion during the show.
“It was just an honor to be on stage with her tonight,” said Chin on her performance with Dion being her favorite moment of the night. “Celine is just even better in person. So warm. So gracious.”
In addition to Dion, the star-studded two-hour finale of The Voice included performances by OneRepublic, Ne-Yo, Aloe Blacc, Paramore, and a duet by Lady Gaga and Christina Aguilera.
It was also a great night for Chin’s coach, Adam Levine, as her victory now makes him a two-time champion of The Voice. Not only did he end Blake Shelton’s three-season winning streak, but two out of the three artists competing in last night’s finale were from Team Adam. Levine’s contestant Will Champlin placed third; while the runner-up was 16-year-old Jacquie Lee from Christina Aguilera’s team.
Talking to Levine after the results last night, there was no doubt of how proud he was of the talent of the Top 3.
“Tessanne is electric,” said Levine. “There’s a lot of amazing talent. Jacquie is amazing. Will is amazing. They all deserved it. And Tessanne was right in the slot. She was right in the groove at the right moment and she just killed it.”
Chin definitely killed it when she took on Whitney Houston’s “I Have Nothing” during Monday night’s performance show. By Tuesday morning her version of the hit song was No. 1 on iTunes, which plays a significant factor in The Voice’s voting count.
What was most significant for Chin from her experience on The Voice was it leading her to develop a stronger sense of faith in herself.
“I have such a new found confidence and belief in me. I think I’ll take from this that with hard work and dedication you can accomplish anything and you can conquer anything.”
