Tonight, Nov. 4, The Voice kicked off its live episodes with performances from Team Adam and Team Blake. Christina Aguilera took the stage first, alongside Flo Rida, who sang “How I Feel.”
Shelbie Z. was up first, with her take on Reba McEntire’s “Fancy.” Christina loved it and thought it was great and a fitting song. CeeLo told Shelbie she is consistently charismatic and did a great job. Adam said she was incredible and gave a flawless performance. Shelbie’s coach, Blake, added that she commands the stage.
Up next was James Wolpert, who sang Jonie Mitchell’s “A Case of You.” Blake commented on the nerve, confidence, and courage James had to have to come out and play acoustically. Christina was really impressed, and CeeLo thought the song choice was great. Adam, James’ coach, was so proud and knew James would bounce back after his last performance.
Nic Hawk demonstrated his rap, dance, and singing skills during his performance of Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines.” Christina couldn’t believe Nic kept up with everything and commended him for doing a fabulous job. CeeLo said he loved the performance and loves to see Nic perform. Adam told Nic he did a really amazing job and is fun to watch. Nic’s coach, Blake, said Nic did everything he could do as a performer, and it was unbelievable.
Also from Blake’s team is Ray Boudreaux, who performed Marc Broussard’s “Home.” Christina said Ray did a great job, and this was the most connected she had ever seen him. CeeLo loved the way the performance translated to everyone there. Adam said Ray did an amazing job. Blake told Ray he is in a position to bring “swamp pop” to a new generation.
Another member from Team Blake, Austin Jenckes, was up next, with The Black Crowes’ “She Talks to Angels.” Christina said Austin sings with real heart, and CeeLo appreciates his effortless strength and very committed performance every time. Adam agreed with CeeLo that everyone is doing a great job and said the performance was incredible. Blake said it’s one thing to be able to think it and sing it, but it’s another thing to think it and sing it with heart.
From Team Adam, Grey took the stage next, with Paramore’s “Still Into You.” Blake admitted he tried to trick Adam so that he could steal Grey earlier on in the competition, but it hadn’t worked. CeeLo wasn’t familiar with the song, but he liked to see Grey perform it as her own. Adam was happy Grey was able to bring everyone into her world.
Will Champlin, also from Team Adam, took on One Republic’s “Secrets.” Christina wished Will was still on her team and said the performance was so beautiful and touching. CeeLo thought it was impressive and a dynamic, definitive performance. Adam added that it was incredible that Will had bounced around to different teams and was meant to be there. He also thought Will has a very special gift.
Another member of Team Adam, Preston Pohl, sang “Nothin’ On You,” by B.o.B. and Bruno Mars. Blake was blown away by Preston’s pocket, pitch, and passion. Christina told Preston his voice is an old soul and has a natural rasp and unique quality. CeeLo agreed and said Preston did a great job. Adam commented that Preston covered all ground, and no one in the competition sounds like him.
Last up from Team Blake was Cole Vosbury, Blake’s final steal from the Knockout Rounds. Tonight, he sang Rod Stewart’s “Maggie May.” Christina commented on Cole’s consistency and couldn’t believe Cole was only a single chair turn. CeeLo told Cole he still loves him unconditionally, and he supports him. Adam also regretted not turning around for Cole and would put Cole on his team if he could. Blake said Cole is good for the show.
Tessanne Chin was last to perform from Team Adam, with “Many Rivers to Cross,” by Jimmy Cliff. Christina told Tessanne to enjoy every second and feel the love in the room. CeeLo said they saved the best for last, and Tess is one of his favorites. Adam didn’t know where to begin – he said Tessanne has a golden soul and is a wonderful human being. He added that her talent is mindboggling.
